Today, Congressman Xavier Becerra (CA-34), Chairman of the House Democratic Caucus, announced that Homeboy Industries and Youth Policy Institute (YPI) received over $2 million in federal grants from the U.S. Department of Labor to improve job opportunities for adults and youth involved in the criminal justice system.
"For adults and youth reintegrating into their communities, finding a good, stable job can be a tough challenge," said Congressman Becerra. "I am pleased that these federal dollars are returning to expand economic opportunity for all Angelenos in our communities. These grants will help individuals who have been involved in the criminal justice system get the skills they need to find employment and contribute to our economy."
Homeboy Industries will be awarded nearly $1.2 million from the "Training to Work" program which assists men and women enrolled in state or local work release programs in gaining the job skills necessary for in-demand occupations as they reintegrate back into society.YPI will receive over $1 million from the "Face Forward" program which helps court-involved youth gain in-demand occupational and employment skills needed to obtain good jobs.
